GoGA Mission

We strive to create a positive, dynamic, supportive, all-female environment where women are challenged to ride harder and farther. We emphasize a holistic approach towards riding: we want to facilitate your progression towards becoming a confident rider in terms of route, repair, and safety knowledge.

The specifications:

- Ride 20 to 30 miles in 2007, 25 to 35 miles in 2008

- Quick pace (we don't want to be out all night)

- You will feel most comfortable riding a road bike

- Although we always look out for each other, you are responsible for knowing your own limitations. If you are not comfortable with long distance, the mechanics of your bike, or the pace is too quick, speak up!!! We will try to accommodate you if you are willing to push yourself.

Tuesday, December 18th: Burrito Project

For one very special night, Burrito Project will be held on a Tuesday, and we shall be in attendance. As a reward to those that risked frozen digits and pneumonia to ride out to Pasadena and Altadena last Tuesday, we will help Todd and his crew roll toasty burritos in the warm comfort of his kitchen.

Bring a big bag, we aim to carry those burritos we make to distribute to the less fortunate on the streets.

The ride will, again, meet a little earlier to ensure that we can help roll burritos.

Meet at 7:30pm at Scoops.

The route from Scoops to Burrito Project can be found here. I, Tattiya, will not be at the Scoops meet up point, but that the place where burrito creation happens (end of the route). I don't know the address of the end point, but call me when you get to the corner of Pico and Westmoreland and I will come out and find you.

"Post" Ride Commentary: Burrito Project was done by car because it was pouring on and off, but accomplished it it's mission nonetheless. Hope everyone stayed dry!

Tuesday, December 11th: Pasadena Holiday Lights

Since we missed Signe last week, let's make this a little closer to her home - let's check out the Pasadena / Altadena Holiday Light Displays.

Here's a suggested route based on thePasadena Convention and Visitors Bureau website reference from 2006-2007.

It's pretty damn ambitious, about 45 miles, we're leaving a little earlier for this one. I think it's enough advance notice for people to commit and/or suggest shortcuts (or tell me I'm nuts).

Awaiting your thoughts...

Please note the NEW MEETING TIME for this ride: 7:00pm, ride out shortly after

Monday, December 3, 2007

Tuesday, December 4th: Ridiculous House Ride

You know you've seen them - bring the addresses and we'll create a route on the spot to make sure we hit the majority of them. I will have a digital camera with me.

For those who want to meet earlier for a little sustenance, I think an group would like to meet at Pure Luck for some grub. I'm talking to you Dana! How about Meeting at 7:00pm for eats, same time to ride out?

Post ride commentary:

Due to a flat tire, all of us didn't quite make it for a dinner before hand, but we did enjoy a scenic ride through Beverly Hills. Highlights were the Witches House, Bugsy Siegel's house, the underwater god's house, the horrendous architectural mansionization of BH, Black Santas at the David house, and Michelle's booklight turned bike light.

An approximation of the route - there were some twist and turns where we were not sure where we were going that might have added some distance - can be found here.

Sunday, December 2nd: Rancho Cucamonga Ride

Hosted by Ivana, this was about a 50 mile one-way trip from Union Station in LA to Ranch Cucamonga. We departed at 9am and feasted upon a lavish BBQ hosted, also, by Ivana. The train ride back was wonderfully appreciated as temperatures dipped.

Highlights:

- Ice cream in Claremont
- Accident-inducing kisses
- Low 60s and sunny
- Flat-ish terrain

Ivana, could you please post the route so that others that may want to ride the route on their own may do so? The directions from Union Station should suffice.

Big ups to Ivana and husband, Angel, Ryan and Carla, Mike from the Pride of the Foothills, Baby, and Jared!

Tues Nov 27: The not such a bad idea ride

The goal is to head east, and rip off a bit of Friday's atlantic to pacific ride.

Meet at the usual time and place: 8.30pm at melrose and heliotrope.

Sunday, November 18, 2007

Tuesday, November 20: Photo Op Ride

No route as of yet, but same goal: 20-30 miles, quickish pace.

I want to incorporate the DWP's Festival of Lights at Griffith Park, most definitely the 30-David statue house. Bring some ideas, as you know it's always an interactive ride.

Meet at Scoops (Heliotrope @ Melrose) at 8:30pm. Ride out shortly after.

Saturday, November 10, 2007

Tuesday, November 13th: Palms / Mar Vista / Culver City Ride

Westside ride. Meet at Scoops (Heliotrophe at Melrose), 8:30pm. Bring ideas for houses that are ridiculous for next time.

See you there.

My suggested route (hopefully we can stop by the new Westside bike shop: LAB - Los Angeles Breakless).

Original post:

Ladies,

Suggestions for this Tuesday:

1. Rancho Ride - If we can get this together I think I would be amazing
2. Ridiculous Houses / Mini Mansions - I saw this house that was RIDIC on 3rd and the street just west of Rossmore. I'm talking 30 mini statues of Michelangelo's David... out of control. I want to see more.
3. Palms/Mar Vista ride - what the heck is around this neck of the woods? Let's explore...
4. Whatever else people are into...

This post is actually up relatively early... Who's down for what?

P.S. Chicago was amazing. My friend made me a scavenger hunt and I went via bike. I went 20+ miles in the city and didn't even notice because it was so damn FLAT!

Tuesday, November 6, 2007

Tuesday, November 6th

I'm still in Chicago by the time the usual meet up time comes around... Anyone meeting tonight? Now's the time to speak up!

Tuesday, October 23rd: Pocket Park Ride

This week: As a refuge to all the horrible air quality, we toured some of the pocket parks of LA trying to get some fresh air. We met early-ish at 8pm. We ended the night at local favorite Pure Luck with a pint (or a half) and some delicious vegan grub.

Douche: "Your mom rides GoGA!"
GoGA girl: "You know what?! You're right, my mom DOES ride with GoGA... WHUT?!?!?"

Big thanks to Katie mom for showing us where some awesome hidden parks were. Way to keep up.

Thanks all for a great loop through the valley last week. Riding on smooth empty paths was definitely a treat.

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Tuesday Oct 16th: SF Valley ride

A suggestion from Ivana: bike path through the valley paralleling the orange line.

Meet at North HollywoodRedline station at 8.30pm.

We will definitely make it back there before the last train.

** The route actually started from Scoops. End point the NoHo Red Line Station after the Valley loop. It can be seen here.

Tuesday, Oct 9th: Venue Ride

Originial Post:

Ladies.

We are thinking of meeting in Pasadena around 7.30 and riding along route 66 to Rancho Cucamunga.

This will be an ~65 mile round trip back to Pasadena.

Ivana, where does the metrolink stop in Pasadena?

This ride is postponed. We would like to have Ivana and company present, and we are cursing ourselves for not exchanging numbers (!), so we are going to do a Venue ride. This way when your friends come into town for shows, you can give them directions. Bring a (mental) list your favorite venues. See you at Scoops (Melrose and Heliotrope) at 8:30pm!

Update: Dana was sick and missed her awesome route. We barely touched Burbank, but we did nevertheless. You can find the route here. Thanks to Ivana, Baby (Elizabeth), and Wendy coming out all the way to LA for the ride!

Who's up for a beach ride this week? (What's the coed event?)

Beach ride it is. The co-ed event was (is) to invite people of the male persuasion to meet us down at the beach, but so far it's not advertised as such. Can't wait to ride this week! Same GoGA time, same GoGA place.

Scoops (on Heliotrope Xstreet Melrose)
Meet: 8:30pm
Ride: 8:45pm, no exceptions.

Tuesday, August 14: GOGA goes SOLA

GOGA will be heading to South Los Angeles this week. Our ride will swing through some lesser know, absolutely beautiful, "old" LA neighborhoods with Victorian and Craftsmand homes. Hosted by your resident Angeleno, Katie B.

Meet at 8:30 at 4SBB (4th Street Bicycle Boulevard) and La Brea.
Show up on time, we roll at 8:45 sharp. It is a week night after all.

Note on image: Lady Master on Tricycle, 31 Oct 1897. The invention of the bicycle, as well as being a cheaper mode of transport, helped to liberate many women during the nineteenth century. It did, however, create heated discussions over appropriate dress for lady cyclists.

Tuesday, August 7: Sexy Time

A tour of LA's better known lingerie and sexy time facilities that will extend from WeHo to Silverlake. Meet at Agent Provocateur, on Melrose just west of Fairfax. 8:30, ride out by 8:45.

This will be a quick-ish ride where there will most likely be lingerie-related stories and discussion about how to make GoGA more accessibe. Undies optional.

Tuesday, July 17 - Westside Ride!

Hear ye, hear ye.

This week's GOGA ride takes a tour of the Westside's darker side in a little ditty I like to call the "Dying to ride with the ladies" ride.

We will stroll through Westwood, Santa Monica and Culver City highlighting examples of decay (yay!) and demise (wise!). Sound like a bucket of joy? Morbidly so, I guarantee.

Lighthearted conversation, giggling and cheering are encouraged to help lift our spirits. (check the pun)

Back to the normal time...8:30pm, ride out by 8:45.

Meet at Santa Monica and Westwood intersection at the gas station.

Scouting for the Wolfpack.Hustle All City Race on July 8. Don has released the start and the finish point, so we meet at Tang's (Sunset and Foutain) at 8:30, ride out by 8:45. The end point is DOCWEILLER BEACH at the HOT DOG STAND (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1102038). I've got a route (the most obvious one) planned out, but for the most part it's open for discussion. Bring street knowledge and some speed, so we aren't out in the cold all night.

Wolfpack.Hustle: East to the Beach

I know Signe was supposed to take us on tour of S. Pasadena on Tuesday, but I think we should scout out the the best way to go from the east to the beach for this race. This means the meet-up spot will be changing. I think starting at either Echo Park (cover our bases) or Tang's (Sunset/Fountain) to somewhere around Playa Del Rey or El Segundo (cover our bases).

Who's in on the 5 person team anyway?

Bring suggested routes - I'm thinking we might could split up & then compare notes - and your hustle, we ain't trying to stay out all night. They release the starting point on Sat. July 7, we should powwow on Saturday too.

What say you?

- Tattiya

to the LOLA!

Ladies Of Los Angeles:
Tomorrow we're meeting at our usual spot at our usual time. If you're a GOGA virgin then that would be 4651 Kingswell at Vermont (just north of Hollywood Blvd) in Los Feliz. We meet in front of Una Maes clothing store at 8:30pm and usually bounce around 9. The ride will be about 20 miles and relatively flat except for a short steep bastard at the beginning... But remember this ride is intended to be a workout so expect to sweat. No weenies!
Was also thinking about arranging for a beer stop or bar hop at the end if anyone is down.

If you're running late and want us to wait then holler at us (215.370.2016)
